The Three Swords of Robert E Lee by Eunice Jones Autry
In the umbrella stand in the hall by the doorWere three wondrous swords standing there on the floor. They were owned by three patriots of a country we have formed,In honor, in valor, were the swords proudly worn.
These men of great valor, so loved by everyone,Three heroes of battle where honor was won.George Washington's sword was one of the three,It was worn by him until America was free
The Marquis De LeFayette whose sword was number two,He wore it in honor until the war was through. The third one was worn by General Robert E Lee,Especially made in Paris for him in 1863.
Ordered by an admirer that lived in Baltimore,Had no trouble getting it sent to a northern shore. Now came the time for a master plan,Through enemy lines and into the General's hand.
For two years he wore in honor with pride,On the road to Appomatox it was strapped to his side.It was offered to General Grant but it was not taken,When our General retained it, he was visibly shaken.
The swords then were taken to their new home,They stand there with pride all these years that have gone.In the president's home for the whole world to see,At the college now known as Washington Lee.
So now in the umbrella stand in the hall by the doorAre three wondrous swords standing there on the floor.
