The following poem, 'The Graves at Farmer's Bridge', was written by Eunice Jones Autry for the memorial service dedicating a stone monument to the memory of the men of Co. G, 12th Alabama Cavalry Battalion on November 8, 1998, who so gallantly defended the strategic bridge across Armuchee Creek in Armuchee, GA on May 14, 1864.

"The Graves at Farmer's Bridge"

by Eunice Jones Autry

Who are these men that so gallantly died

And were buried so hurriedly by this lonely roadside?

While guarding a bridge they did all give their lives.

Did anyone comfort them or hear their last cries?

Now years have gone by since they paid with their life.

For a cause that was just they paid that great price.

Brave men, we are here and you will not be forsaken.

We salute you with pride, our faith never shaken.

Be at peace now, our brothers, in your earthly bed,

For today, just for you, many tears will be shed.

As we stand here today with our hearts filled with pride,

You did not die in vain, you had truth by your side.

Your brave Captain and you in your lonely grave

Lie here in peace to await that Great Day.

Until then we honor and hold you in glory,

To all who will listen, we will tell them your story.

With thousands against you,

You stood bravely to fight.

You gave all you had

For a cause that was right.
