In God's Good Earth

by Eunice Jones Autry

They lie there so still, wrapped in God's good earth

Having paid with their life, for all it was worth.

So hold your head high when you pass them by

With prayers in your mind and a tear in your eye.

Give honor to them for the price that they paid

We shall never forget the promise we made.

So beat the drums softly and play the pipes slowly

With the pride of our fathers we will face the world boldly.

For the world of today wants us all to go away

But our honor and flags are all here to stay.

Our fathers look down from their homes up above

Show them honor and justice, but above all, show them love.

So today we are here with freedom from fear

It is right to pray and perhaps shed a tear.

So beat the drums softly and play the pipes slowly

For the right of their cause, give our hearts wholly.

Give a prayer and a cheer to last for a year

And if next year comes, let the world find us here.
