Honor To Our Fathers

by Eunice Jones Autry

Our fathers before us did not die in vain

Their faith and courage with us still remain.

They faced the invaders, both fierce and bold

And left us a lesson more precious than gold.

We must honor and salute them as often as we may

True history will prove that theirs was the right way.

Defending their rights against a mightier foe

Protecting their homeland with all the might they could show.

With courage they fought, with banners held high

No thought for themselves, "Onward Brave Soldiers" was their battle cry.

Bravely they fought to the bitter end

Their arms were surrendered but the truth did not bend.

The truth of their struggle must be told for all to hear

For the sake of our children and the schools we hold dear.

Don't let lies be taught them as if they were facts

Make the school boards listen and urge them to act.

Tell the truth with honor and respect to all

Even though you are right, sometimes justice does fall.

Our fathers with courage did not die in vain

Their honor and truths will forever remain.
