On October 20th, 2001, the dedication of Ft. Norton took
place at 10:30 AM at the civic center in
Rome, GA. Situated on the highest hill in Rome, Ft Norton was one of 7
forts that defended the city during the War of Northern Aggression. Gilbert
Smith, a member of SCV Camp 469 in Rome, set about in 1991 to assure that the
fort was preserved, protected and eventually restored to its original glory.
