DID YA KNOW?

The site of the current “Cotton Block” in downtown Rome was once the site of the Dickinson and Nelson Rifle Factory. They made the carriages for the Noble Brothers Cannons located across the street. The factory burned in 1862 of an unknown origin.

COMPANY “A” MEETING

Members of Company A of the Floyd Legion will have an organizational meeting on September 6, 2007 prior to the monthly Camp 469 meeting beginning at 6:15 p.m. at the Senior Center . Leadership positions will be selected at this time.

All members, and those wishing to join, are asked to attend this meeting. Company “A” will also drill at this meeting. Do not wear your uniforms, but please bring your muskets. If you don’t own a musket, then bring a suitable replacement such as a broom or shovel handle.

Also, if you have a copy of Hardee’s Manual, please bring it with you.

RUMMAGE SALE

Camp 469 will participate in the Rome Braves Rummage Sale held on September 22, 2007 at the State Mutual Stadium on the bypass. The sale is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and ends around 2 p.m.

If you would like to help Merroll, Bobby and Scott with this project please let them know. They work very hard at these types events representing our camp.

COOSA VALLEY FAIR

HERITAGE HOLIDAYS

Camp 469 will be conducting “Living History” lectures during Heritage Holidays at Heritage Park on October 13th and 14th. Organizers have requested that the camp provide speakers or re-enactors to give insight into local heritage and life during the civil war. Several different presentations will be given each day so time commitments will be kept to a minimum. It has also been requested that the camp set up their Sutler’s Tent during Heritage Holidays and sell our wares to unsuspecting tourists and Yankees. If you are interested in participating in either of these activities, or know someone who may, please contact 1st Lt. Commander Jim Dugger at (706) 232-7553 (E) or via E-mail at Strollinjim@Bellsouth.net
