Camp 469 Newsletter – July, 2003

The next Camp meeting will be Thursday, July 3, at 7:00 at the library.

Our main speaker will be Dawn Hampton, Director of Special Collections at the Rome Library. Ms Hampton, a graduate of State College for Women and who has taught English for a number of years, will give a presentation on How to Research your Confederate Ancestor.

AUTO TAGS

As of June 22, Tom Brown, our State Adjutant, has received 912 applications for SCV tags for next year. As you now know, Georgia has changed the rules on purchasing these tags: you will NOT be able to special-order them next year. However, the cut-off date has been extended to July 31 of THIS year. If you wish to purchase a tag, let any Camp officer know at the next meeting. All that is needed is your name, address, city, state, zip, date of birth, your signature, and a check for $25 per tag made out to SCV Camp 469. The Camp will then mail the applications to Tom Brown.

Several Camp members are buying SCV tags for all their vehicles. Remember: you do NOT have to be a member of the SCV in order to purchase an SCV tag. make copies of the application, then ask your neighbors, co-workers and relatives if they'd be interested. Most will be.

If you have an e-mail address, but are not receiving any e-mails from the Camp, send a message to [romescv@somcast/net] with the subject Add Me. Most are on the list, but some addresses are wrong.

Upcoming Events

July 11 - Gen N B Forrest Birthday Celebration to be held at Adams Furniture on Broad St in Rome at 7:00. The Rev Studdard to conduct service, after which there will be a pot luck supper.

Only 1 name has been added to the Confederate Memorial Plaque in the library in the past 4 months. All that is needed is your name, your ancestor's name, rank, etc., and $10.

The library currently has Confederate Pension Records for Floyd, Polk, Bartow and Chattooga Counties, and an order for 29 more counties was recently placed.

Don't forget that raffle tickets for the 3-band Enfield Rifle are still on sale. If you wish to buy or sell tickets, they can be picked up at the next meeting.

Remember: Dates and times of upcoming meetings and events can be found on our Camp website at [www.scvcamp469-nbf.com]. Also, a new link giving names, addresses and telephone numbers of all Camp members has been added to the website. However, it is password protected.
