Camp 469 Newsletter – June, 2007“A Historical Education & Preservation Organization” NEXT MEETING The next Camp 469 meeting will held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the Sara Hightower Regional Library beginning at 7 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Rev. Kenneth Studdard. He will speak on the “Faith of Lee and Jackson”. EXECUTIVE MEETING The executive board of Camp 469 will meet June 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the library prior to the camp meeting. Company “A” serves at various functions such as memorial services, parades and civic functions. If you would like to be included in this volunteer group or would like additional information please contact 1st Lt. Commander Jim Dugger. BIRTHDAY PICNICOur annual Nathan B. Forrest Birthday Picnic is tentatively scheduled for July 8th at the park across from Silver Creek Methodist Church in Lindale. This will be a covered dish affair and all camp members are encouraged to attend. The watermelon from creek last year was the hit of the picnic. Final details will be in the July newsletter. COMING EVENTSOct. 2 – 6: Coosa Valley Fair. Recruiting and fundraising function. Oct 12 – 14: Heritage Holidays at Heritage Park in cooperation with the Cherokee Artillery.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE MAY 28, 2007 The General Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp 469 has been invited to participate in the Rome Memorial Day Parade on May 28th in downtown Rome. The parade begins at the Citizens First Bank and will proceed down Broad Street to the Myrtle Hill Cemetery for the memorial service. This annual event, which is organized by the Roman Legion, is always well attended by the community. Those members of the camp who wish to participate in the parade portion of the Memorial Day Service are asked to form up behind the Citizens First Bank no later than 4:30 p.m. Captain Wayne Scott of the Cherokee Artillery is coordinating the parade and has requested that one camp member carry the 3rd National Flag and two others will carry muskets for the honor guard detachment. Additional camp members will escort the 3 inch Confederate Noble Rifle down the street behind the pickup truck. Captain Scott has also requested that any individual (adult or high school age) who wishes to participate in the parade depicting another time era (Revolutionary War, WWI, WWII, etc…) to please contact him right away at 256-526-6015. He is working to put each detachment together ahead of time. Those wishing to participate in another era and need to be fitted for a uniform are requested to meet Capt.
