NEXT MEETING The next Camp meeting will be held Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the library beginning at 7 PM. Mike Ragland will be the guest speaker. His topic for the evening is "The Confederate States marine Corp". RELAY FOR LIFE TOTAL The hat was passed for the 'War Effort' at the Brigade Ball, bringing the total raised for the Cancer Society to $386. Thanks to all Cam members for their contributions. BRIGADE BALL A SUCCESS The Brigade Ball held on April 30th has been declared a major success. Dance master Tim Key kept the dance floor full to the tunes of the 8th Regiment Band. Attendance was estimated to be around 100 members and guests. Special thanks to Don and Shirley Adams and their families for organizing the event. BIKE RIDE BEING PLANNED David Rigney is in the process of organizing a motorcycle find raising ride for the Camp. The route that is being planned is Rome to Tunnel Hill via Kingston and Calhoun with the ride ending at the reenactment of the Battle of Tunnel Hill. Tentative date is the weekend of September 10 & 11. SCV MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY Harris Publishing Company has been chosen to produce the national SCV Membership Directory. This directory will contain a complete listing of all members of the SCV. The company will be sending an e-mail with the subject line, "Sons of Confederate Veterans Membership Update Request". Members will be directed to a site which will allow them to access their information and make changes to their profile. No price for the publication was listed on the communication from the national office. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE Camp 469 will participate in the Memorial Day Parade on May 30th in downtown Rome. The parade will begin at Citizen's First bank at 5 PM and proceed down Broad Street to Myrtle Hill Cemetery. A brief service will be held at 6 PM remembering those who have served our country from the Revolutionary War to the current conflict in the Middle East. Memorial Day will begin with the lowering of the flag at Rome City Hall/Auditorium at 10:30 in the morning. There will be exhibits at the Mitchell Plaza and a DC-9 traveling museum will be just part of the days activities. Cannon fire will resonate through downtown beginning at 3 PM from the top of Myrtle Hill and a fly-over, weather permitting, by Tiger Flight in WWII-era air-coupes is planned. Camp members wishing to participate in the parade should form up behind Citizens' First Bank at 4 PM. Company A, Floyd Legion will be activated for this activity. If you do not have a uniform and wish to participate, please contact Don Adams or Hugh Durden to make arrangements. Hugh Durden is also in need of non-uniformed members of the Camp to assist him in the firing of 'Little Emma' from Myrtle Hill. [Home] |
