NEXT MEETING
The next SCV Camp 469 meeting will be held Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Sara Hightower Regional Library beginning at 7:00 pm. This meeting will be unique as each person will give a short presentation on their Confederate ancestor which will, in turn, remind each of us of our common bond with each other.
145th FORREST ANNIVERSARY
Camp members are invited to attend the 145th Anniversary of Forrest’s capture of the 1400 Yankees with 400 Confederates at Lawrence Plantation just west of the state line. Entertainment, historical presentations and a salute firing by re-enactors will be included in the morning activities.
Please come help the Alabama Division celebrate this significant event. Come see the restored Forrest Monument and join the activities located 4 miles east of Cedar Bluff, Alabama or ¼ mile west of the intersection of Hwy 9 and Alabama Hwy 35. The celebration will begin at 10:00 am CST.

BATTLE OF RESACA
The 144th Anniversary of the Battle of Resaca will be held May 16 -18th at the Resaca Battlefield located just north of Resaca on Hwy 41 North.
Admission for the re--enactment will be $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. Camp opens each day at 9:00 with battles beginning at 2 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. This is one of only a few reenactments held on an actual field of battle so don’t miss it.
The Battle of Resaca was the first major battle of the Atlanta Campaign in which General Joe Johnson’s 55,000 Confederates took on 111,000 northern forces led by General William T. Sherman. More soldiers were engaged in this battle than either the Battle of Chickamauga or the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain with over 11,000 known casualties from both armies.
GEORGIA CIVIL WAR COMMISSION MEETING
The Georgia Civil War Commission will hold their quarterly meeting at the Kennesaw Mountain Visitors Center on Saturday, May 10th beginning at 11:00 am. Interested camp members are invited to attend.
RESACA BATTLEFIELD INTERPRETIVE CENTER
According to Georgia Civil War Commission Chairman John Culpepper, the State of Georgia has approved a 3 million dollar bond to construct the Resaca Battlefield Interpretive Center next to I-75 in Resaca. Construction dates have not been released, but it is a done deal.
PARK DAY 2008 A BIG SUCCESS
SCV Camp members and local community volunteers from Rome High School participated in the Civil War Preservation Trust sponsored “Park Day 2008” on April 6th. Even with a one day rain delay 25 high school volunteers and camp members cleaned headstones at the Confederate section of Myrtle Hill Cemetery . A Living History presentation was given by 2nd Lt. Commander John Harrison, and local Civil War Historian Phil Wood spoke on the need to preserve and protect our Civil War battlefields and parks. Anne Poe, sponsor of the Rome High National Honor Society, has asked to be invited back next year to assist again. Stan Roger, Rome City Cemetery Superintendent, was very impressed with the day’s activities and is also making plans to invite the camp back next year. Camp members who participated were: Ben Terry, Scott Brock, Bobby Barton, Daniel Fisher, John Harrison, Merroll Smith, Stephen Carnes, Bob Perry and Jim Dugger. Special thanks also to Pat Millican for her input and assistance.
