Our guest speaker will be National SCV Field Representative Jack Marlar. Mr Marlar is an energetic speaker from South Carolina who will give a presentation on the CSS Hunley. His focus will be on ingenuity, technical innovations and engineering advances. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Please welcome the following new members to SCV Camp 469: Robert Barton Rome Scott Brock Rome Thomas Roberts Cartersville Eric Matthews Rome Let's continue to recruit new members. Invite friends, neighbors and co-workers to our monthly meetings and Camp activities. Remember ... if their grandparents were from the South, they more than likely had a relative in the Confederate Army. Everyone sacrificed! FEBRUARY MEETING FROZEN OUT For those of you who we couldn't get in touch with in time, the February meeting of Camp 469 was cancelled. The Sara-Hightower Library was closed due to the frigid temperatures, so we had no place to gather on such short notice. We hope to have Buddy Autry back real soon to be our guest speaker. E-MAIL AND SNAIL MAIL ADDRESSES NEEDED Recently Camp Adjutant Stephen Carnes' computer was ambushed by a Yankee virus and many of our Camp e-mail addresses were lost. Please forward your current e-mail address to either Stephen Carnes at dadcarnes@yahoo.com or newsletter editor Jim Dugger at Strollinjim@bellsouth.net. Also, if you are currently not receiving either the Georgia Confederate or the Confederate Veteran, your mailing address may be inaccurate. Please send Stephen Carnes your current mailing address so that he may update our list and forward to the National office. Thank you. RELAY FOR LIFE PARTICIPATION NEEDED Once again SCV Camp 469 is planning on participating in the Floyd County Relay for Life scheduled for April 20th at Ridge Ferry Park. This annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society lands smack in the middle of Confederate History Month and what better way to be a viable and visual part of the community than by participating as a group. This is the third year the Camp has participated in the Relay for Life and as a group raised just under $900 in the fight against cancer. Last year Camp 469 and the Cherokee Artillery signaled the start of the relay with a 1/2 pound round from "Rose", setting off car alarms and startling small children and dogs. An enjoyable evening was then had by all as we provided a Living History for the many cancer survivors and their families in attendance. Camp members can get involved by joining the Camp 469 Relay Team. For a minimal cost of $10 you get a free Relay for Life T-shirt. Relay members are encouraged to fund raise for the American Cancer Society and bring the monies to the March and April meetings. Sign up sheets will be available at the meeting. Honor a cancer survivor by donating $10 for a Luminary Bag, which has the honoree's name on it and placed around the walking track. Or you can honor a friend or relative who has passed away from cancer in the same manner. Luminary forms will be available at the next Camp meeting. All donations are tax deductible. Contact Jim Dugger at 706-232-7553 for additional information.
