NEXT MEETING

The next Camp 469 meeting will be held Thursday, February 1st at the Sara-Hightower Regional Library in Rome promptly at 7 pm.

Our guest speaker will be former Camp Commander Buddy Autry. Buddy will present a program on Confederate General Stand Waite. General Waite was a Cherokee Indian who was the last Confederate General to surrender his sword.

CIVIL WAR RELIC SHOW

Just a reminder that Camp 469 will be setting up a booth at the Chickamauga Civil War Show and Sale in Dalton, GA on February 3rd and 4th. Merroll Smith will be needing any assistance that can be provided during the show. Merroll can be reached at 706-234-0093.

This is one of the largest shows in the Southeast with a huge selection of antiques and artifacts from the Civil War period. Follow the signs from I-75 exit 333 (Walnut Avenue) to the NW Georgia Trade Center.

THANK YOU

Please take time out of your day to thank former Camp Commander Hugh Durden, Lt Commander Bob Perry and Adjutant Stephen Carnes for their hard work and dedication the past two years. The Camp has been blessed to have these gentlemen in leadership positions.

BECOMING A BETTER CAMP: GET INVOLVED!

Many members are searching for ways to become more involved in the many Camp activities and haven't quite found their niche. The Camp is involved in many civic activities as well as teaching opportunities. A uniform is NOT a requirement even though some members do so as part of a Living History program or Memorial Service. Listed below are some of the many ways you can become more involved in the Camp.

  • Relay for Life: April 20th at Ridge Ferry Park

  • Memorial Services for our Confederate ancestors

  • Lee's Cadets: A new program for youngsters 5 - 16 years of age

  • Sutler's Table at reenactments, Coosa Valley Fair and festivals

  • Speak at a Camp meeting

  • Parades: Christmas, Easter and Memorial Day

  • Cemetery clean-up

  • Planning Committee for Confederate Ball and Confederate History Month activities

  • participate in Living Histories at area schools or Fort Norton

  • Speak to civic or church groups about your Confederate ancestor

  • Write a brief history of your Confederate ancestor for the Camp website

  • Attend monthly Camp meetings (first Thursday of each month)

Contact a Camp officer and GET INVOLVED!
