His books will be available for purchase.

DUES

Camp dues are due now and should be paid by January 15. Dues received after January 31 will have a late $5 late fee. For those who haven't paid yet, you can either pay at the Lee-Jackson Dinner or send a check for $35 to: SCV Camp 469, 76 Plantation Dr., Rome, GA 30165. It should be noted that the $3 increase from last year is to help pay for the ante-bellum SCV headquarters house in Forsyth, GA. To date almost 50 of the Camp members have already paid their dues

CAMP PHOTOGRAPH

Camp 469 is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. As part of the year-long festivities we will have a group photograph taken on April 4 at 3:00 at the foot of Myrtle Hill Cemetery by Clyde Collier Photography. Period uniform or suit and tie will be the proper attire. As this will be an event for posterity, it is imperative as many members as possible be present. Along with 8X10 photographs the Camp will also submit the photo to both the magazine Confederate Veteran as well as our newspaper The Georgia Confederate.

Note: If you have been considering joining, or know of someone who is interested, this is the perfect time. We want at least 100 members for our centennial. We are presently at 91 with 1 pending. With a big push from everyone we should easily exceed 100 members.

Among the things to be discussed at the February meeting will be:

  • The Confederate Memorial monument

  • National SCV Convention this year in Dalton

  • Centennial plans for Camp 469

  • The Camp photo in April

In the latter part of July our Camp will have a great opportunity to participate in and vote at a National SCV Convention. If possible, plan to attend at least one of the events. Information on several very important voting matters will be available at the upcoming four Camp meetings.

The following is a message from the Georgia SCV Commander Jack Bridwell:

A word on our SCV tags:

I read where one member had some difficulty in getting his SCV tag from his tag office; my birthday is in early January so I went today to obtain my new tag.

Guess what, the local tag office informed me that I would have to pay the manufacturing fee. I told the young lady that I had already paid the manufacturing fee. She went to the computer and, after several minutes, told me that I wasn’t on record. I then asked about my wife’s tag. Her name wasn’t "in the computer" either.

Luckily I had a number to call at DMV and talked with the lady there in Atlanta. She faxed me a copy of my paid receipt and I went back to my local tag office and was refunded the fee…

Now, what we all need to do, the tags have been manufactured, they (the DMV) will be mailing your receipt to you individually as they send the tags to the counties. When you receive the receipt, make sure you retain it. When you go to get your new tag, present it and you won’t have to go through the same thing I did. This applies to those 1,200 people who pre-ordered the SCV Tags only.

Apparently, the problem is that the DMV didn’t tie the new tag to your existing account so the local tag office will have some problem locating your paid record (this is only for those of you who helped us get the tag by prepaying your fee). Those of us who have to get our tags early will experience some problems. My receipt was dated August 22, but had not been mailed. They "didn’t want us to have the receipt before the tags were available".

The final note of irony is that they didn’t have my new tag, they are sitting in a warehouse in Atlanta waiting to be sent to the counties, but they were more than willing to take my money.

Jack Bridwell
