The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 469 has ongoing programs which offer members a wide range of activities. Preservation work, marking Confederate soldiers' graves, Confederate Memorial Services, Living Histories, scholarly publications, and regular meetings to discuss the military and political history of the War Between the States are only a few of the activities sponsored by Camp 469. Mark your calendar now for the following upcoming events:

 

January 1 Due to the first Thursday being on January 1, there will be no meeting
January 17 Lee-Jackson Dinner, 7:00 at The Claremont House located on 2nd Ave just above the YMCA. Tickets are $25 per person, 3 course meal. They have a professional sound system so we will be playing our music. Past Commander Mike Ragland will be the guest speaker.
February 7 & 8 Chickamauga Civil War Relic Show, Dalton, Ga
February 5 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. Main speaker will be Wayne Scott, Commander of The Cherokee Artillery, where Cmdr Scott will give a presentation on the various battle flags of the War of Northern Aggression, after which the Smith Papers will be presented to the Camp.
March 5 Camp meeting, Senior Center, Riverside Parkway, 7:00 PM. The main speaker will be Dale Mitchell, Commander of Chattooga County Camp #507. Commander Mitchell will give a talk on the resurgence of their Camp.
March 14 The Camp will be selling our Southern Heritage merchandise from 7 am to 3 pm at The Redneck Yard Sale to be held at the Rome Braves parking lot. Since this will be a long day, we will need as much help as possible.
March 14 The Camp will be selling numerous 'yard sale type items' at The Indoor Yard Sale to be held in the Gilbreath Recreation Center in Lindale, GA. We will be selling such items as kitchen utensils, garden and hand tools, drapes, shades, hardware and rugs that have been collected throughout the past year. Set-up will be on March 13 between 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
March 15 First Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Highway 20 west of Rome between mile markers 11 & 12 at 8:00 AM. Parking at intersection of Highway 20 and Barker Road at site of the old Rice Farm. Rain date March 22. CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN

Kennesaw State University: The Center for the Study of the Civil War Era Presents the 6th Annual American Civil War Symposium from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. The $15 admission fee includes breakfast and a dessert reception.
March 22 First Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Highway 20 west of Rome between mile markers 11 & 12 at 8:00 AM. Parking at intersection of Highway 20 and Barker Road at site of the old Rice Farm.
April 2 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. The main speaker will be Mr Phil Wood, who will speak on The Battle of Franklin where he will give a Power Point Presentation.
April 4 Civil War Preservation Trust National Park Clean -Up Day at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Rome, 8 to 11 AM with local high schools participating and possible cannon fire.
April 18 Rededication of Nathan B Forrest Monument by the United Daughters of the Confederacy will take place at Myrtle Hill cemetery at 2:00.
April 19 Blue Pond Baptist Church will hold a Confederate Memorial Service at 3:00. The main speaker will be Reverend Ken Studdard. Period dress is encouraged, refreshments will be served after the service. CANCELLED
April 25 'Ride for Your Pride' Motorcycle Poker Run. Starting and ending location is Panhead City. 8:00 to 12:00 from Rome, then Kingston, up Highway 41 through Adairsville, Calhoun & Resaca, then back to Rome. $25 per rider and $5 per passenger. CANCELLED
April 26 Confederate Memorial Day Service, 3:00, Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Rome, GA. 8th Regiment Band will be presenting the music, The Cherokee Artillery will supply the cannon salute and Co A, Floyd Legion will supply the musket salute. Speaker will be Phil Wood.
May 2 The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 469 is honored to conduct, for the family of Carol Walters Carmichael, a Confederate Memorial Service for Captain William Henry Harrison Walters, Co H, 18th GA Inf. The service will take place on May 2 at 2:00 PM at Pisgah Baptist Church in Coosa, GA. During the service by the SCV, The Cherokee Artillery will present a live cannon salute and Co A, Floyd Legion will present the musket salute, after which refreshments will be served.
May 7 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. Main speaker will be LTC Harold M. Knudsen who will give a PowerPoint presentation on Gen Longstreet. LTC Knudsen will also have copies of his book, James Longstreet: The Confederacy’s Most Modern General which is based on his Master's dissertation.
May 15 through 17 Battle of Resaca, Resaca, Ga. Camp 469 will be setting up our suttler's tent.
May 25 Memorial Day Living History and Parade, Rome, Ga. The SCV will set up a Living History at Southeastern Mills starting at 10:00 AM. The Camp will also have several uniformed members in the parade
May 30 Second Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Highway 20 west of Rome between mile markers 11 & 12 at 8:00 am. Parking at intersection of Highway 20 and Barker Road at site of the old Rice Farm. Rain date June 6.      POSTPONED to June 7.
June 4 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. Past Camp member Stacy McCain, who is presently an assistant national editor for The Washington Times, will give a presentation entitled "Beyond the Flag: Defending Our Honor in the 21st Century".
June 7 Second Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Highway 20 west of Rome between mile markers 11 & 12 at 8:00 am. Parking at the store at the corner of Highway 20 and Woods Rd.
July 2 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. Dr. Edward R. DeVries, author of the 4-volume book series GLORY IN GREY, will give a presentation on The Religious Revival that swept through the Confederate Armies during the Civil War. Dr DeVries will have books available for signing and selling.
July 12 Gen Nathan B Forrest Birthday Celebration at 2:00 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church. This is a covered dish affair and the public is invited. The park picnic table, refurbished by Camp 469, will also be dedicated at this time.
August 6 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. James H Birdsong will give a presentation on his antebellum home, Colonial Heights, and the events that took place during the Civil War in the area surrounding the house which is located between Rome and Cave Spring. He will also have his book, Land Where Our Fathers Died, available for signing and selling.
September 3 Camp meeting, Rome-Floyd Co Library, 7:00 PM. Our main speaker will be Russell Gray. Mr Gray will be discussing the book, Fightin' With Forrest, that was written by his father-in-law, Charles 'Gordon' Yeager. Mr Yeager will also be present and signing copies of his book that will be available for sale.
September 13 The third Adopt-A-Highway clean-up for 2009 will take place on Highway 20 west of Rome between mile markers 11 & 12 at 8:00 am. Parking will be at intersection of Highway 20 and Woods Rd at the gas station. POSTPONED
September 19 & 20 Tunnel Hill re-enactment

October 1 Camp meeting, Riverside Parkway Senior Center, 7:00 PM. Our speaker will be Jim Cabaniss, an ordained United Methodist Pastor and SCV member since 1977. Compatriot Cabaniss will give a presentation on Little Round Top.
October 4 Camp 469 will participate in the semi-annual church service at Sardis church located in The Narrows 15 miles west of Rome on Highway 20. Period dress is requested and food will be served on the grounds after the service.
October 11 Camp 469 will conduct a Confederate Memorial Service at 2:00 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church for th following Confederate veterans buried throughout the cemetery: Booker, James W.  Co. D, 32nd GA; Denson, A. J. Unit unknown; Faith, James L.  Co. C, 39th GA; Jenkins, William F.  Co. I, 1st GA; Henderson, Sandy -   Co. I,  12th Ala. Cav; Kyle, Samuel H. – Co. C, 40th GA Inf; Martin, Dennis M. – Co. G, 22nd GA; Wood, James P. Co. E, 28th GA Inf; Woodruff, Moses C.  Cherokee Artillery; Young, James D. – Co. C, 40th GA Inf. Company A, Floyd Legion will present the musket salute.
October 18 SCV Camp 469 will perform a Confederate Memorial Service for Private Columbus Cuzzort, Co G, 1st GA Cavalry, on October 18th at 2:00 at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church cemetery which is located directly in back of Foster's Mill Store just north of Cave Spring on Highway 100. Co A, Floyd Legion will present the musket salute.
November 5 Camp meeting, Riverside Parkway Senior Center, 7:00. Speaker will be Past Commander Hugh Durden who will give a presentation, with video, of the reclamation of one of the Union gunboats that fought in the Civil War and was sunk, by a Confederate torpedo (mine), in the Yazoo Canal just west of Vicksburg, MS
November 15 Fourth Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Highway 20 west of Rome between mile markers 11 & 12 at 2:00 pm. Parking at intersection of Highway 20 and Woods Rd
December 1 Camp 469 will have a float entered in the Rome Christmas Parade
December 5 SCV Camp 469 will observe our annual President Jefferson Davis Memorial Dinner at the Riverside Parkway Senior Center, 7:00 PM. This will be a covered dish supper. 2010 officers to be voted in. The main speaker will be Rev Ken Studdard.
