Camp 469 Newsletter – December, 2007“A Historical Education & Preservation Organization” NEXT MEETING The next camp meeting will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Senior Center on Riverside Parkway beginning at 7 p.m. Our guest speaker will be camp member, John Carruth, who will deliver insights into the life of CSA President Jefferson Davis. MEMBER PASSES Larry Barwick, past Commander and Adjutant crossed over the river on November 29th. Funeral services took place on December 1st at 11:00a.m. at Daniels Funeral Home. Interment was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Gore. Rev. Ken Studdard officiated. CAMP ELECTIONS The nomination committee has recommended that the following individuals lead the camp for the year 2008. Commander: Ben Terry 1st Lt. Commander: Jim Dugger 2nd Lt. Commander: John Harrison Adjutant: Stephen Carnes Formal elections to be held at the Dec. 6th meeting.
JEFFERSON DAVIS MEAL Camp 469 will commemorate the passing of CSA President Jefferson at the December 6th meeting. A covered dish meal will be held and members are asked to bring their favorite dishes, desserts and beverages. John Carruth will be our guest speaker. Camp member’s family and friends are invited to attend. SUGGESTIONS WELCOME Camp members are encouraged to bring forward suggestions of camp activities and ways to improve our camp. If you have an idea, please contact an officer of the camp or raise it at the next meeting. Also if you would like to serve on a committee for the coming year please don’t be shy about volunteering. Our ultimate goal is to have an active camp whose main purpose is to honor our Confederate ancestors and to raise community awareness of their sacrifice. Together, everyone working toward a common goal, we will be successful. CAMP 469 FLOAT PLACES 3RD THANKS TO MANY! The Camp 469 float captured placed third in the Adult Division in the Rome Christmas Parade on November 27th. A number of camp members and their families participated either on the float or with the decoration of the float. Special thanks goes to Lamar Fowler and his family who spent countless hours building props for the float and to Daniel Fisher who made numerous trips to the forest to cut trees for decoration. Without these two individuals there would not have been a float. Also, thanks to John Harrison for procuring a trailer and driving the truck. All camp members are encouraged to participate in the Calhoun Christmas Parade scheduled for December 13th. For additional information contact John Harrison.
