General Nathan Bedford Forrest Sons of Confederate Veterans, Rome, Ga. Camp 469 Newsletter – December, 2003NEXT MEETING The next Camp meeting will be Thursday, December 4, at 7:00 at Adam's Furniture. Our main speaker will be Dr Keith Bohannon, Professor of History at the State University of Georgia. Dr Bohannon will speak on "The Weapons and Tactics of the Atlanta Campaign". Commander Adams is asking that this be a family affair ... a celebration of Christmas. So bring the family and invite your friends. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Among the things to be discussed will be:
CAMP STRENGTH Camp 469 presently has 88 members, with 2 new members pending. As of November 29, 2003, Camp 469 has $2,745.72 in the Regions Bank checking account. Don't forget there is still room on the Confederate Memorial Plaque in the library for which to memorialize your Confederate ancestor. $10 will show the name, rank, company, regiment and state of your ancestor as well as your name. There are currently 43 names on the plaque with 2 more names pending. Upcoming Events The Camp float - depicting a typical Confederate Christmas in 1866 - will be entered in the parades in: Summerville - December 1 Rome - December 2 Chickamauga - December 6 Calhoun - December 11 There is also a possibility the float may be entered in several more parades in surrounding towns. April 16 & 17, 2004 - Charleston, SC. The burial of the crew of the Confederate submarine H L Hunley. It should also be noted that 2004 dues of $35 can now be paid. The $3 increase is to help pay for the ante-bellum Sons of Confederate Veterans headquarters house recently purchased in Forsyth, GA. Currently 28 members have already paid their dues. Camp 469 will be observing its 100th birthday during the year 2004. Consequently we are striving to attain a membership of 100 members, preferably by Confederate Memorial Day in April. Remember that, as members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, it is your duty to pass on your Southern heritage. So talk-up the SCV, talk-up your Camp, and solicit everyone who expresses an interest in joining
