NEXT MEETING

The next meeting of SCV Camp 469 will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Senior Center on Riverside Parkway beginning at 7 pm. The Senior Center is located next to the railroad tracks opposite Ridge Ferry Park.

At press time no speaker has been announced so we will take this time to hold a general business / planning meeting. There are a number of projects and special events coming up and this would be a good time to plan those out.

COOSA VALLEY FAIR

Many thanks go out to the camp members who volunteered their time to assist with the Camp 469 table at the 2008 Coosa Valley Fair. We made a lot of contacts with prospective camp members and sold quite a few T-shirts, hats and flags. Thanks go to Merroll Smith, Bobby Barton, Ben Terry, Andy Lee, Mike Morton, Stephen Carnes and Jim Dugger. Hope I didn’t miss anyone.

CAMP POLO SHIRTS

The camp still has a limited number of SCV Camp 469 Polo shirts available. Large polo’s are $25 and the XL are $27 which is about $15 dollars below catalog price. Shirts will be available at the November meeting on a first come basis.

CAMP ASSISTANCE REQUESTED

The camp has received a request to assist a family in the Shannon area that was recently burned out of their home. They had no insurance and one small child. A hat will be passed at the November meeting to assist this family in need.

ROME CHRISTMAS PARADE

Camp 469 is once again making plans to participate in the Rome Christmas Parade. Each year the camp enters a float and we have been fairly successful in bringing home prizes. We will discuss plans for the float and other details regarding the float at the November meeting. The Rome Christmas Parade is scheduled for December 2nd beginning at 6:30 pm.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

A slate of prospective officers for the camp for 2009 will be presented at the November meeting. If you have any recommendations please contact Don Adams, John Butler or Merroll Smith to give your input. Voting will take place at the December meeting.

KELLY BARROW

Kelly Barrow, Commander of the Army of Tennessee, will be our guest speaker at the December meeting. This will be our annual Jefferson Davis Memorial Celebration and will be a covered dish dinner. Please mark your calendars for December 4th at the Senior Center beginning at 7 pm.
