Camp 469 Newsletter – November, 2007“A Historical Education & Preservation Organization” NEXT MEETINGThe next camp meeting will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Senior Center on Riverside Parkway beginning at 7 p.m. Al Castillo, local businessman and published author, will speak on "Hispanics Serving in the War Between the States." FINAL CALL FOR CAMP DUES October 31st is the deadline for renewing your camp membership for 2008. If you haven’t done so yet, please send a check or money order for $38 to: SCV Camp 469, 76 Plantation Drive , Rome , GA 30165 . MEMBER PASSES Moody George, long time camp member, crossed over the river in early October. Twelve Camp 469 members served as honorary pallbearers at the service. Please remember the George family in your prayers. PRAYER LIST Several camp members have been in the hospital recently. Please keep them in your prayers. If you are interested in serving in an official capacity with the camp or know someone who is willing to serve please contact a member of the nominating committee or be prepared to make a nomination from the floor. Committee members: Don Adams (256) 422 – 3761 Wayne Shelly (706) 291 – 9921 Steve White (770) 324 – 9924 SELECTING CAMP LEADERS When our Confederate ancestors selected their leaders they looked for men such as Joe Johnson, Patrick Cleburne and Nathan B. Forrest who kept the soldiers best interest in mind. Camp 469 needs men who are committed to the camp and are willing to lead. There are a number of members who are very capable of providing leadership and it’s time everyone took a long hard look at the camp and the direction it is going and make our leadership selections wisely. COOSA VALLEY FAIR& HERITAGE HOLIDAYS THANKS Once again the Coosa Valley Fair was a big success for the camp as many contacts for the camp were made and numerous T-shirts, hats and flags were sold to fair visitors. The following weekend in cooperation with the Cherokee Artillery & Roman Legion, Camp 469 participated in Heritage Holiday activities at Heritage Park at the confluence of the Oostanula and Etowah Rivers . A big thank you to those who contributed to the success of the Heritage Holiday events in Rome .
