General Nathan Bedford Forrest Sons of Confederate Veterans, Rome, Ga. Camp 469 Newsletter – November, 2005 NEXT MEETING The next Camp meeting will be held Thursday, November 3, 2005 at the Fort Norton Interpretive Center beginning at 7 p.m. There will be no featured speaker as this will be a time of show and tell of Civil War relics. Members are asked to bring any relic they might have in their possession to share information about with other Camp members. Items expected to be displayed include muskets, pistols and personal use items from this time period. Please make plans to attend and bring a friend. I promise you won’t be disappointed. COOSA VALLEY FAIR Thanks go out to those who assisted with the Camp 469 booth at the Coosa Valley Fair. A number of members stopped by the booth and a number of potential members were contacted. It was a great recruiting tool for the Camp. HERITAGE HOLIDAYS Special thanks to the members of Company A, Floyd Legion and the Cherokee Artillery for their participation in the Living History presentation at Ft. Norton during Heritage Holidays. An estimated 200 visitors heard the cannons roar and the muskets fire from Ft. Norton atop Jackson Hill over a two day period. Gun play was also demonstrated that evening at the Forrest Hotel, site of the Heritage Holiday Ball sponsored by General Nathan B Forrest SCV Camp 469. Pickets also fired a round at suspected Yankees who dared get too close to the ordinance rifle guarding the entrance to the ball. An excellent time was had by all attendees and the 8th Regiment Band and Tim Key provided their usual outstanding performances. Living histories were also conducted at Mt. Alto School and at Myrtle Hill in late October. The Myrtle Hill Living History was part of the “Where Romans Rest” tour during Heritage Holidays. CHRISTMAS PARADES Camp 469 will participate in several Christmas parades this season. Already on the schedule are Rome and Dalton with Summerville, Calhoun and Cave Spring under consideration. The theme for the Rome parade will be “Christmas Around the World.” Flags representing the various nationalities of those who fought will be represented on the camps float. Camp members will be dressed in period dress from their home country (Does anyone have a kilt I could borrow?)
