Camp 469 Newsletter – October, 2007“A Historical Education & Preservation Organization” NEXT MEETING The next camp meeting will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Sara Hightower Library beginning at 7 pm. Our guest speaker will be Dan Roper, Editor/ Publisher of Georgia Backroads Magazine. Dan’s topic will be “The Battle of Farmers Bridge .” CAMP DUES It’s time once again to pay camp dues for the up coming year. For the paltry sum of $38.00 you get a subscription to the Georgia Confederate, the Confederate Veteran and the camp newsletter. With your dues you are also supporting an organization that strives to insure that our Confederate ancestors are remembered and their values upheld. Dues may be paid at the next camp meeting or mailed to: SCV Camp 469, 76 Plantation Drive , Rome , GA 30165 . DID YA KNOW? The Georgia 1st Brigade SCV has a website devoted entirely to our brigade. The site has links to all of the other camp websites within our division and can be found at www.gascv1.org. NOMINATION’S OPEN Nomination’s for camp officers for 2008 will be presented at the November meeting. If you are interested in serving in an official capacity with the camp or know someone who is willing to serve please contact a member of the nomination committee. Sgt. John Harrison was selected NCO for Company A and will be directing the drills. Please contact Sgt. Harrison if you have any questions at (706) 802 – 0719 regarding the camps honor guard. RUMMAGE SALE Camp participation and sales were good at the Redneck Rummage Sale held at State Mutual Stadium on September 22nd. Thanks to Merroll Smith, Bobby Barton, Scott Brock for organizing the sales tent and to Steve White, Tom Roberts and Jim Dugger for helping out.
COOSA VALLEY FAIR INFO & SCHEDULE The 2007 Coosa Valley Fair is next week (Oct 2 – 6) and we have a good group of camp members ready to pitch in and make this our best fair ever. We will meet to set up the booth on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at the community building just inside the gate. Passes to the fair have been promised for volunteers each night, however if you don’t get one please inform the person at the ticket booth that you are working the fair and they should let you in free. Gates open at 5:00 pm each evening and close at 10:00 pm (Tuesday - Friday) and Saturday from 11:00 am until 10 pm. Schedule Sunday: Sept: 30th Set up camp exhibit/ booth 1 pm Tuesday: Oct. 2nd Ben Terry / Bob Perry Wednesday: Oct 3rd Jim Dugger / Lamar Fowler Thursday: Oct. 4th Don / Shirley Adams Friday: Oct. 5th John Harrison Saturday: Oct 6th Merroll Smith, Scott Brock, Bobby Barton Sunday: Oct. 7th Load everything back up 1 pm Additional camp members will be needed on Friday evening and Saturday. If you can assist for the entire evening or just part of the session please just show up. Any help is always welcome and greatly appreciated.
