Camp 469 Newsletter – October, 2005

NEXT MEETING

The next camp meeting will be held Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the library beginning at 7 p.m.

Our speaker will be Mrs. Hiles who will present a program about her Civil War ancestor from South Carolina. Please make plans to attend.

NOVEMBER MEETING

The November meeting will be held at the Ft. Norton Interpretive Center. No single speaker is scheduled, as this will be an opportunity for camp members and historical buffs to bring their small arms collection for a period of “show and tell”.

Many members have authentic, as well as reproduction, firearms.

This will be an opportunity for members bring their toys for others to appreciate. Other Civil War period artifacts are welcome to be shown also.

NEW CAMP MEMBER

Please welcome Ian O’Shea as our newest camp member. Ian is a real estate agent for Garden Lakes Realty.

COOSA VALLEY FAIR

SCV Camp 469 will participate in the Coosa Valley Fair and volunteers are needed to assist with our booth. Our display will be set up in the Education Building. Fair dates are October 4th – 8th from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. Several nights are still open to serve. Contact Ben Terry at 235–4737 if you want to help.

The fair will serve as a major fundraiser for the Camp and will also be a platform for recruiting new members. T-shirts, hats and other items will be on sale to the general public according to Quartermaster John Harrison.

Also planned for the booth will be a slide show and a photographic display of camp activities from the past year. Please take time out of your busy schedule to support the camp.
